South African Highland Dancing Championships Results

Yesterday, Benoni High School played host to the South African Highland Dancing Championships. It was a perfect day for Highland Dancing, warm without a cloud in the sky. It was good to see over a hundred dancers dancing in the day’s event as Highland Dancing in South Africa seems to have declined over the years. There were three full Championships: under 16 years, 16-18 years and over 18 (Adult).

The day went rather smoothly with hardly any hiccups. There was only one delay just before the Championship Swords when the judges and convenors debated about the placing of the overactive swords.

The days events came to a close with the long awaited results of the Championships. The under 16 years championship went to Shannon Anderson from the Robinson Studio. The 16-18 year championship went to Cendra Williams from the Melaney Smith Studio. And the Adult Championship went to our very own Gillian O’Leary from the O’Leary Studio. Congratulations to all winners and all competitors on the day 🙂
