46th South Coast Highland Gathering

This highland dancing competition has been running for many years. It first started in 1963 and is now the biggest Highland Gathering in South Africa. The highland dancing competition was once convened by O’Leary Studio’s Avril O’Leary. After many years of organising this competition she handed it over to the very capable hands of her South African Champion Bronwyn Parker, who is the current convenor.

  • Place: Hutchinson Park, Amanzintoti, Kwa-Zulu Natal.
  • Date: 28 April 2012
  • Time: 8:30 onwards

Highland Dancing Information:

Registration will start at 8:30am and the dancing will start at 9:00am sharp. There will be Primary, Beginner, Novice, Intermediate and Premier Highland and National events as well as Championship Special Sections. There will be 3 judges and more than 6 competitiors in each section but it will not be classified as a Championship Event. As this is a Special Section with 3 judges Oscar points will be awarded. The O’Leary Studio would like to wish every dancer Good Luck for this special day.

Pipe Band Information:

This is the first Pipe Band Championship competition of the year and its going to a very hotly contested competition. The events on the day include Novice Juvenile, Juvenile, Grade 3, Grade 4, Grade 2 and drum majors. Massed bands will be at 5:20pm. The Solo Competitions will be held on the Sunday, 29 April 2012.
